Your weight and foot ache
Foot pain and weights
When suffering from aching feet, you may not think about your waistline. Sometimes your weight can be an underlying cause of foot pain. Each time you take a step, about one and a half times your weight is placed on your foot due to the downward motion of the body. If we run or play basketball three to four times a day, our weight lands on each foot whenever it hits the ground, every pound we gain in weight adds to the pressure on our feet. So don’t be surprised if your foot care specialist asks how much you weigh the next time you develop a problem in one or both feet.
The rising level of obesity now appears to be taking a toll on the nation's health from head to toe. Feet and ankle problems have been placed on the list of weight-related conditions, which already includes increased risk of diabetes, heart disease and strokes.
According to an online survey of people who reported that they had had either foot surgery, seen a physician for foot / ankle pain or changed shoes based on physician advice - these people were also likely to be heavier than normal. Their average body mass index was 27.9 kg/m. Desireable BMI is 18.5 to 24.9 kg/m. In addition, nearly 41% reported gaining weight before the onset of pain.
It is therefore extremely important to take care of your feet with more reason to do so if you feel that you may be slightly over weight.
